So boys - Eintracht or Man Utd?
I missed the day unfortunately, circumstances conspired but was at Eintracht and many others over the years. The atmosphere and racket we kicked up this week was massive

So tell me, that looked like it may have topped Eintracht - did it?

The Ipswich game had the best atmosphere due to pardews efforts but the Frankfurt game was a better all round evening what made it for me was we'd been to the away game and paddons rocket got us back in when it looked over. The away leg against den Haag was the best away game. I remember hundreds of us at an ice skating rink that had a bar and during the game the police coming in on horseback. Many years ago sadly

I made 500 mile round trips to see the Den Haag & Eintracht Frankfurt night matches
The latter being the best night of my life at the Boleyn
In those days you didn't need a ticket, you just turned up!
I was in the old North Bank & right behind Keith Robsons screamer at the other end of the pitch
It went right down to the wire (if Eintracht scored we would have been out & they were really pressing us hard)
I seem to remember Tommy Taylor making a goal line clearance right near the end
I watched the last game vs manu on TV (there's no way I could have got a ticket sadly) & it was brilliant
Equally exciting & a great comeback but at the end of the day, despite it being our final game at the Boleyn, it was all about 3 points, getting one over manu & a possible place in Europe
The Eintracht game was about getting into the ECWC Final (for the 2nd time)
All night matches at UP were special, but that one will always be the one for me!

Re: So boys - Eintracht or Man Utd?
Thanks boys, very insightful, gutted I missed Tuesday but would not have swapped it for Eintracht

Someone mentioned their fans and a flag - remember it well, they were in the Run Upper toward the North Bank, the Boscher with this bloody great flag, several on the same pole, was waving it proudly but it was so big the bottom was sweeping invitingly over the lower section - boys will be boys and a lad lept like a salmon caught it and hung on like grim death whilst Fritz frantically pulled, the ground erupted and after a few seconds it ripped to huge celebration. Outside we bumbed into him, in full lederhosen with a few mates and a cracking blonde sort, not sure he got that home, he was being buzzed by youngsters like hyenas around a buffalo grabbing at it

Outstanding night that it was

No only Keith and he scored, after Pop

I've said more than once on here that outside of my kids being born the EINTRACHT game was probably the greatest night of my life. Been going since '64 and i dont think i'll ever feel like that again during or aftet a game of football.

Did both Keith and Pop Robson play in that game?

Eintracht for me. Both games were for different reasons. The top 2 though.

Too young for the Frankfurt game.

Was at the Ipswich playoff game which up until Tuesday was the best I'd been to.

Tuesday topped it for me though - whether it was the fantastic lead up outside the ground, the unexpected performance and way the game panned out or the fact that I got to share it with my son, I don't know.

Probably a mixture of all of them, but if we create half of that atmosphere at the Hotpoint, then i'll be very pleased... and surprised.

Sorry Eggy he was talking about the congestion of people outside the ground on Tuesday... not people being able to park...

Eggbert Nobacon 2:03 Fri May 13
Re: So boys - Eintracht or Man Utd?
also parking restrctions were few and far between and no sod had a 2 car family back then

While i'm sure Golds gone over the top, I also dare in 76 a massive amount more of that crowd lived in walking distance of the stadium

NS, I agree that the area coped OK with 45k, they never had the queues at UP Station, everyone used to just pile in and on the trains. H&S I assume?

I feel fortunate that I was at the Frankfurt game and many of the games of that era.

Northern Sold 1:46 Fri May 13
Re: So boys - Eintracht or Man Utd?
Bullet.... the amazing thing what I remember there was no major congestion... everyone survived and got home safely ... which makes Golds statement yesterday about the main reason moving is that the area could not cope with 45,000 (hence why there was trouble in his eyes on Tuesday) complete and utter bullshit

The Krauts for me, even as an 11 year old you could tell it was special.

Tuesday night was excellent though, by far the best in the all seater days. The footballing gods couldn't have scripted it better. An old enemy, under the lights and a victory from being behind. Fair play to the club too, I wasn't the greatest fan of the after show but in reality whatever they did could never have matched the enormity and the emotion of the occasion. They did however get bits of it spectacularly right. The brass band playing Abide With Me while the screen showed those that had passed on did it for me

Eintracht.

Re: So boys - Eintracht or Man Utd?
Atmosphere would have been improved due to the attendances being much higher for a start, approx 10k more fans inside, terracing helped with a bit of Knees up Mother Brown, the fans were almost exclusively working class EastEnders. It was like sardines in the NB. We were well supported after winning the cup a year earlier. Beating the Germans was always a massive deal back then and quite a few big krauts turned up waving massive flags.

They had mechanical turnstiles which weren't very accurate, two would squeeze through as one. Wouldn't surprise me if Frankfurt was a record attendance considering the importance. You had to pay taxes on the attendance declared so there were probably a fair few mechanical turnstile counting mechanism breakdowns, so manually estimated :-)

As recorded
Record attendance: 44,417 Tottenham 1927 FAC
42,322 Tottenham 1970.
39,202 Frankfurt 1976

Eintracht
The miserable weather, floodlights shining off a very wet pitch all added to a very special night.

I think the atmos at Ipswich was better, but as a day, I don't think I've had many better than Tuesday night.

Gutted that we are leaving absolutely??

Gutted that you pretended to kick down the door of the Bobby Moore stand, punch a security guard , leg it up stairs, nick someone's seat, spent some time texting people on WHO instead of watching the game..... and then got SUPPOSED selfies taken with you holding a match programme... Naaah not really??

You found your camera lead yet??

Got to be Man Utd. Can't see anything before or after ever coming close to the emotion of that evening.
